Who Can Join Our Community

Business sellers are responsible for complying with the legal, tax, licensing, and consumer protection requirements that apply in the countries where they operate.

4. How Art is Lit Works

Art is Lit brings together independent artists and Buyers through a secure online marketplace designed to celebrate creativity, encourage meaningful connections, and support original Artwork.

Our role is to provide the Platform that allows artists to showcase their work and Buyers to discover pieces they love in a trusted and transparent environment.

Although we facilitate these connections, every transaction is built on a shared partnership between Art is Lit, the Artist, and the Buyer.

Understanding each person’s role helps create a positive experience for everyone.

The Role of Art is Lit

Art is Lit provides the technology, tools, and services that enable our marketplace to operate.

We are committed to creating a safe, professional, and welcoming environment where creativity can flourish.

Our responsibilities include:

providing a secure marketplace for Buyers and Artists;
reviewing Artist applications as part of our curated marketplace;
supporting secure payment processing;
providing tools that help Artists manage their shops and orders;
developing policies that promote fairness, transparency, and trust;
supporting communication between Buyers and Artists where appropriate;
helping facilitate the resolution of qualifying disputes; and
continually improving the Platform based on feedback, innovation, and the needs of our community.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, Art is Lit is not the creator, owner, manufacturer, or seller of the Artwork listed by independent Artists.

The Role of Our Artists

Artists are at the heart of Art is Lit.

Every Product Listing represents someone’s creativity, dedication, and craftsmanship.

Artists are responsible for:

creating or lawfully offering the Artwork they sell;
presenting their work honestly and accurately;
maintaining professional Product Listings;
packaging Artwork with care;
dispatching orders within their stated processing times;
communicating openly with Buyers; and
complying with this Platform Policy, the Seller Agreement, and applicable laws.

We encourage every Artist to see each order as the beginning of a lasting relationship with a Buyer, not simply the completion of a sale.

The Role of Our Buyers

Buyers make it possible for independent creativity to flourish.

By choosing to purchase original Artwork, Buyers directly support artists and the creative community.

Buyers are encouraged to:

read Product Listings carefully before purchasing;
ask questions if additional information is needed;
provide accurate delivery details;
inspect Artwork promptly after delivery;
communicate respectfully with Artists; and
report genuine concerns honestly and within the applicable timeframes.

Every purchase is an opportunity to support creativity and build trust within our community.

5. Selling on Art is Lit

Art is Lit is a curated marketplace dedicated to celebrating original creativity, craftsmanship, and artistic expression.

Every Artwork shared on our Platform contributes to the experience of our community and helps shape the reputation of Art is Lit.

We encourage every Artist to present their work with pride, honesty, and professionalism so that Buyers can purchase with confidence and fully appreciate the creativity behind each piece.

Our goal is not to judge artistic style or creative expression.

Our goal is to encourage accurate representation, originality, and high standards that benefit both Artists and Buyers.

5.1 Originality and Authenticity

Originality is at the heart of Art is Lit.

Artists should only list Artwork that they have created themselves or that they are legally authorised to sell.

Where appropriate, Product Listings should clearly identify whether an item is:

an original Artwork;
a limited edition;
an open edition;
a reproduction;
a commissioned piece;
a handmade creation;
a digital download; or
another clearly described format.

Buyers should always be able to understand exactly what they are purchasing.

Knowingly misrepresenting Artwork or providing misleading information is not permitted.

5.2 Honest and Accurate Listings

Clear and accurate Product Listings help Buyers make informed decisions and reduce misunderstandings.

Artists are expected to provide, where applicable:

an accurate title;
a clear and detailed description;
dimensions;
materials used;
care instructions where appropriate;
realistic processing and dispatch times;
accurate pricing;
high-quality photographs that fairly represent the Artwork; and
any other information that may reasonably influence a Buyer’s purchasing decision.

We encourage Artists to describe both the strengths and any notable characteristics of their work openly and honestly.

Transparency builds confidence.

5.3 AI-Generated and AI-Assisted Artwork

Art is Lit recognises that artificial intelligence can be a valuable creative tool when used responsibly and transparently.

Artists should clearly indicate whether Artwork has been:

traditionally created;
digitally created;
AI-assisted; or
fully AI-generated.

Providing this information allows Buyers to make informed purchasing decisions while supporting openness within our creative community.

Artists remain responsible for ensuring that their work complies with applicable copyright laws and does not infringe the rights of others.

5.4 Respecting Intellectual Property

Artists should only upload content that they own or have permission to use.

This includes:

Artwork;
photographs;
videos;
product descriptions;
logos;
branding; and
promotional materials.

Respecting intellectual property protects creativity and supports the artists whose work makes our marketplace possible.

5.5 Professional Standards

We encourage every Artist to present their shop as professionally as possible.

This includes:

maintaining accurate Product Listings;
responding to Buyer enquiries within a reasonable time where possible;
packaging Artwork carefully;
dispatching orders responsibly;
communicating openly if unexpected delays occur; and
continually reviewing and improving the quality of their shop.

Professionalism helps build trust and encourages Buyers to return with confidence.

5.6 Curated Marketplace

Art is Lit is proud to be a curated marketplace.

To help maintain the quality, integrity, and reputation of our community, we may review:

Artist applications;
Product Listings;
shop presentation;
marketplace content; and
compliance with our Platform Policies.

Acceptance onto the Platform does not guarantee ongoing approval, and we may review listings or accounts from time to time to ensure that our marketplace standards continue to be met.

Any action taken will be fair, proportionate, and consistent with our policies.

5.7 Our Commitment

Every Artist who joins Art is Lit contributes something unique.

Some have years of experience.

Others are just beginning their creative journey.

6. Buying on Art is Lit

Choosing a piece of Artwork is often a personal and meaningful experience.

Whether you are purchasing your very first piece of original art or adding to an existing collection, every purchase represents an opportunity to support an artist’s creativity, passion, and dedication.

At Art is Lit, we want every Buyer to shop with confidence, make informed decisions, and enjoy a positive experience from discovering Artwork to welcoming it into its new home.

By taking a little time to review Product Listings carefully and communicating openly with Artists where needed, Buyers help create a marketplace built on trust, fairness, and mutual respect.

6.1 Making an Informed Purchase

Before placing an order, Buyers are encouraged to review the Product Listing carefully.

Where appropriate, this may include checking:

the Artwork description;
dimensions and materials;
photographs;
processing and dispatch times;
shipping options;
whether the Artwork is an original, limited edition, reproduction, commissioned piece, or digital download; and
any other information provided by the Artist.

If anything is unclear, we encourage Buyers to contact the Artist before completing their purchase.

Artists are often happy to answer questions and provide additional information where reasonably possible.

6.2 Supporting Independent Artists

Every purchase made through Art is Lit directly supports independent artists and creative businesses.

Many Artists create, package, and dispatch their work themselves.

A little patience, understanding, and respectful communication can make a meaningful difference to the people behind every Artwork.

We encourage Buyers to remember that many pieces available through Art is Lit are handmade, individually produced, or created in limited quantities.

Every Artwork has its own creative journey.

6.3 After Your Purchase

Once your order has been placed, Buyers are encouraged to:

monitor any tracking information provided;
ensure someone is available to receive the delivery where appropriate;
inspect the Artwork promptly after delivery;
retain the original packaging until satisfied with the purchase; and
report any genuine concerns through the Platform within the applicable timeframes.

Prompt communication helps preserve evidence and allows concerns to be resolved more efficiently.

6.4 Honest Communication

We encourage Buyers to communicate openly, honestly, and respectfully throughout every transaction.

If an issue arises, we ask Buyers to:

explain the concern clearly;
provide accurate information;
share relevant photographs where appropriate;
allow the Artist a reasonable opportunity to respond; and
work constructively towards a fair resolution.

Most concerns can be resolved through respectful communication before becoming formal disputes.

6.5 Respecting the Marketplace

To help protect our creative community, Buyers should not:

provide false or misleading information;
misuse the Buyer Protection process;
submit fraudulent claims;
manipulate reviews;
attempt to avoid payment through the Platform;
harass, threaten, or abuse Artists or other members of the community; or
engage in any activity that undermines the trust or integrity of Art is Lit.

Our policies are designed to protect honest Buyers and honest Artists alike.

6.6 Our Commitment

7. Protecting Our Community

Art is Lit is built on trust.

Every Artist who shares their creativity, every Buyer who places an order, and every member who joins our community helps create a marketplace where people can connect with confidence.

Protecting that trust is a shared responsibility.

While the overwhelming majority of our community acts honestly and respectfully, this chapter explains how we help protect the Platform from behaviour that could undermine the confidence, safety, and integrity of our marketplace.

Our goal is not to expect the worst from people.

Our goal is to protect the very best of our community.

7.1 Acting with Honesty

We ask every member of the Art is Lit community to act honestly, fairly, and in good faith.

This includes:

providing accurate information;
communicating truthfully;
respecting agreements;
cooperating during investigations; and
treating others with fairness and respect.

Honest behaviour helps build a marketplace where everyone can participate with confidence.

7.2 Protecting Creativity

Art is Lit celebrates originality and respects the rights of creators.

We do not permit activities that intentionally undermine or exploit the creativity of others.

This includes, where applicable:

knowingly selling counterfeit Artwork;
misrepresenting Artwork;
using another person’s creative work without permission;
providing false information about originality or authenticity; or
infringing copyright or other intellectual property rights.

Protecting creativity means protecting the artists who make our community possible.

7.3 Fair Use of the Platform

Our policies and marketplace features exist to support honest Buyers and Artists.

They should never be used to obtain an unfair advantage.

Examples of misuse include:

submitting fraudulent claims;
providing false or misleading evidence;
manipulating reviews or ratings;
attempting to avoid marketplace fees;
arranging transactions outside the Platform after introduction through Art is Lit;
abusing the Buyer Protection process;
creating multiple accounts to avoid restrictions; or
any other conduct intended to deceive, exploit, or unfairly disadvantage another member of the community.

7.4 Keeping Our Community Safe

We are committed to maintaining a welcoming environment where everyone feels safe to create, buy, sell, and communicate.

The following behaviour has no place within Art is Lit:

harassment;
bullying;
discrimination;
hate speech;
intimidation;
threats;
abusive language;
unlawful activity; or
conduct that creates an unsafe or hostile environment.

Every member of our community deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

7.5 How We May Respond

Where we reasonably believe that our Platform Policies have been breached, Art is Lit may take appropriate action to protect the community.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

providing guidance or a warning;
requesting additional information;
temporarily removing content or Product Listings;
restricting certain Platform features;
suspending or terminating an account;
withholding payments where permitted by our Terms and applicable law; or
taking any other reasonable action necessary to protect the Platform and its community.

Any action taken will be fair, proportionate, and based on the individual circumstances of each case.

8. Fair Decisions and Resolving Concerns

At Art is Lit, we understand that most transactions are completed successfully and without the need for our involvement.

Occasionally, however, misunderstandings, unexpected issues, or genuine disagreements may arise.

When this happens, our role is not to take sides.

Our role is to understand what happened, carefully consider the available information, and work towards a fair and reasonable outcome.

We believe that every person deserves to be heard, every concern deserves to be considered, and every decision should be made with honesty, consistency, and respect.

8.1 Encouraging Communication

We encourage Buyers and Artists to communicate openly and respectfully whenever a concern arises.

Many issues can be resolved quickly through honest conversation, patience, and a willingness to work together.

Whenever possible, we encourage members of our community to seek a practical solution before requesting our involvement.

8.2 When Art is Lit May Help

Where Buyers and Artists are unable to resolve a matter themselves, Art is Lit may assist by:

reviewing the available information;
requesting additional evidence where appropriate;
facilitating communication between the parties;
considering the relevant Platform Policies;
applying applicable consumer protection laws where required; and
working towards a fair, balanced, and proportionate outcome.

Our role is to support a fair process, not to automatically favour either the Buyer or the Artist.

8.3 How We Review Concerns

Every situation is unique.

When reviewing a concern, we may consider:

Product Listings;
photographs and videos;
messages exchanged through the Platform;
tracking information;
proof of dispatch or delivery;
supporting documentation;
previous communications relevant to the matter;
information provided by both parties; and
any other evidence reasonably necessary to understand the circumstances.

No single piece of evidence automatically determines the outcome of a review.

Each matter is considered individually.

8.4 Fair and Consistent Decisions

Our decisions are guided by:

the available evidence;
this Platform Policy;
our Marketplace Terms & Conditions;
our Seller Agreement;
our other published policies; and
applicable laws and regulations.

We aim to apply our policies consistently while recognising that exceptional situations may require careful judgement and reasonable discretion.

8.5 Exceptional Circumstances

No policy can anticipate every situation.

Where exceptional circumstances exist and are supported by credible evidence, Art is Lit may exercise reasonable discretion to reach an outcome that remains fair, proportionate, and consistent with our values, our policies, and applicable law.

8.6 Our Commitment

Fairness is not about treating every situation exactly the same.

It is about treating every situation with the same care, integrity, and commitment to doing what is right.

Our promise is to listen before we judge, consider the evidence before reaching conclusions, and treat every Buyer and Artist with professionalism, impartiality, and respect.

9. Keeping Our Marketplace Safe

At Art is Lit, we believe that a safe, trusted, and welcoming marketplace benefits everyone.

The overwhelming majority of our community acts honestly, respectfully, and in good faith. However, there may be occasions where we need to take action to protect our Platform, our Artists, our Buyers, and the integrity of our community.

Whenever possible, we aim to educate, guide, and support before taking enforcement action. However, where behaviour places others at risk or seriously undermines trust, we may need to act more quickly to protect our community.

Our goal is always to take action that is fair, proportionate, and appropriate to the circumstances.

9.1 Reviewing Accounts and Marketplace Activity

To help maintain the quality, safety, and integrity of Art is Lit, we may review:

User Accounts;
Artist applications;
Product Listings;
marketplace activity;
communications where reasonably necessary and permitted by law;
reported concerns; and
other information relevant to the operation of the Platform.

Reviews may be carried out where we reasonably believe they are necessary to investigate concerns, maintain marketplace standards, comply with legal obligations, or protect our community.

9.2 When We May Take Action

We may take action where we reasonably believe that a User has:

otherwise acted in a way that undermines the trust and safety of our community.

9.3 Action We May Take

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the matter, Art is Lit may:

provide guidance or education;
issue a warning;
request additional information or verification;
temporarily remove Product Listings;
temporarily restrict certain Platform features;
suspend Buyer or Artist Accounts;
withhold payments where permitted by our Terms and applicable law;
permanently remove Accounts;
report unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities where required or permitted by law; or
take any other reasonable action necessary to protect the Platform and its community.

Whenever reasonably possible, we aim to take the least restrictive action that is appropriate for the circumstances.

9.4 Opportunity to Respond

We recognise that misunderstandings and genuine mistakes can happen.

Where appropriate, and unless doing so would compromise the safety, security, or legal obligations of the Platform or others, we will normally give Users an opportunity to respond before making a final decision.
