How it all started
The Barrier to Entry for New Creators
“As I turned my personal passion into practice, friends encouraged me to share and sell my work. While exploring these opportunities, I quickly uncovered a systemic problem that affects countless emerging artists: the harsh reality of entering the creative market.
The barriers were clear and immediate:
High Commission Fees — unfairly diminishing the reward for creative labour.
The Shadow of Doubt — the isolation and self-doubt that quietly whisper, ‘Is my art even good enough to compete with established brands?’
Overwhelming Platforms — Many existing platforms feel overly complex and intimidating for new creators, making it difficult to focus on what truly matters: creating.

About the founder
The founder of Art is Lit is a proud Portuguese creative whose passion for travel, cultural discovery, and international cuisine has always been deeply rooted in her spirit. Born in Angola, Africa, she remains forever grateful to have come from a country and continent where nature still reigns in its most raw, beautiful, and untouched form, a place filled with breathtaking landscapes and an enchanting sense of freedom.
Yet, for her, the true beauty of Africa has always been its people: resilient, generous, and deeply human. Even with very little, people shared what they had with warmth, kindness, and some of the biggest hearts imaginable. Those values of community, authenticity, and human connection continue to shape the vision behind Art is Lit.
Now living in London, United Kingdom, with her family, she has found inspiration in the city’s rich history, diversity, and individuality. Some of her most cherished moments are spent exploring the peaceful beauty of Hampstead Heath, especially during life’s more challenging times, finding comfort in nature, reflection, and the simple joy of slowing down.
What she loves most about London is its openness: a city where diversity is celebrated, individuality is respected, and people from all walks of life can coexist while embracing what makes them unique. She also holds immense admiration and gratitude for the NHS, especially for the healthcare professionals working tirelessly on the front lines every day, often under immense pressure, yet still carrying compassion and kindness in everything they do.
At the heart of Art is Lit is the belief that creativity brings people together. Whether sharing coffee and laughter with friends or spending time with a small but wonderful group of artists united by a shared passion. She finds endless inspiration in seeing people from different backgrounds come together with one common purpose: to escape, express themselves freely, and create beautiful pieces of art with their own hands.
Art is Lit was created as a space where passion, creativity, individuality, and human connection can truly thrive.
